NYU Steinhardt Policies

All-School Requirements for Graduate Students

New International Graduate Student Seminar (SAHS-GE 2003)

During their first semester in residence, incoming international graduate students are required to register for SAHS-GE 2003, a noncredit class given on a laissez passer/neglect basis. Expository Writing

Freshman Students

Freshmen at New York University may not utilize for a waiver of the writing requirement. Taking the WRCI-UF 102 course and receiving a minimum course of C will fulfill the writing proficiency test requirements.

Freshmen students will non receive transfer credit for writing courses taken while in high school.

External Transfer Students

Independent Study

Independent study requires a minimum of 45 hours of work per unit. Contained study cannot exist used to satisfy Cadre requirements or the required liberal arts program minimums, nor can information technology exist applied to the established professional educational sequence in teaching.

Each departmental program has established its own maximum credit allowance for independent study as part of its specialization. This data may be obtained from the academic counselor. Procedures

The Steinhardt Faculty Committee on Pupil Progress (COSP) is composed of the Director of Advising and Student Success, the Assistant Dean for Bookish and Registration Services, and kinesthesia representatives from beyond the Steinhardt School. Campus Safety

New York University'south annual campus security report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled past New York Academy, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to the campus. The report also includes institu­tional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning sexual attack, drugs, and alcohol. Students may obtain a re-create of the current report past contact­ing the Department of Campus Safety .

New York Academy Weapons Policy

New York University strictly prohibits the possession of all weapons, as described in local, land, and federal statutes, including, but non limited to, firearms, knives, and explosives, in and/or effectually whatsoever and all University facilities—bookish, residential, or others. This prohibition extends to all buildings—whether endemic, leased, or controlled past the University, regardless of whether the bearer or owner is licensed to conduct that weapon. The possession of any weapon has the potential of creating a dangerous situation for the bearer and others.

The only exceptions to this policy are duly authorized law enforcement personnel who are performing official federal, state, or local business and instances in which the bearer of the weapon is licensed past an appropriate licensing authority and has received written permission from the executive vice president of the University.

New York University Simulated Firearm Policy

New York University strictly prohibits false firearms in and/or around whatever and all University facilities—academic, residential, or other. This prohibition extends to all buildings—whether owned, leased, or controlled by the University. The possession of a false firearm has the potential of creating a dangerous situation for the bearer and others.

The only exceptions to this policy are instances in which (one) the bearer is in possession of written permission from a dean, associate dean, assistant dean, or section head and (2) such possession or use of simulated firearms is direct connected to a Academy - or school-related event (e.thousand., play, film production). Whenever an approved simulated firearm is transported from one location to some other, it must be placed in a secure container in such a way that it cannot be observed. Storage of approved fake firearms shall be the responsibility of the Department of Campus Safety in a location designated by the vice president for public prophylactic. Under no circumstances, other than at a Campus Safe storage area, may approved false firearms exist stored in any University-endemic, -leased, or -controlled facilities.
